Video 3 min 46 sec 2017

This piece of video performance was made in the wake of the Me too movement, which shone a spotlight on the abuses of power taking place, mainly against women. The Black dress was a symbol of unity amongst the rich and famous making a stand on the red carpet. I was particularly struck by the bravery of women speaking out, risking their careers, their livelihoods, forever, in some cases. This 'simple' act of speaking the truth, quietly, often, makes the loudest noise, especially if done collectively.

It is an anethema to those who seek to silence.

I incorporated my love of disco dancing, playful and fun, yet at the same time serious, necessary and a vital expression of women. I wanted to acknowledge the historical connotations and parallells made between women and dance. The medieval church believed that dance was an invocation of the devil and led women to be out of control with their sexuality.
